Ron Rivera commends Sarah Fuller for making history with kickoff originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington
Vanderbilt women’s soccer player Sarah Fuller made history Saturday, when she kicked off the second half of the Commodore’s football game against Missouri to become the first woman to ever appear in a Power 5 contest.
Washington Football Team head coach Ron Rivera took notice, shouting out Fuller on Twitter while complementing her on a “perfect mortar kick.”
Fuller, a senior goalkeeper for the SEC championship-winning women’s soccer team, only had one opportunity to kick as Vanderbilt was held scoreless in a 41-0 defeat at the hands of the Tigers. However, she’s still in the history books with one career kickoff and zero return yards.
The Commodores added Fuller to the roster this week after the latest round of COVID-19 testing left their specialist corps depleted. She’s the third woman in FBS history to appear in a college football game, joining Katie Hnida of New Mexico (2002-03) and April Goss of Kent State (2015).
