Report: Mathews lands one-year contract with Celtics originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington
After two years with the Wizards, Garrison Mathews has reportedly found a new home.
The 24-year-old sharpshooter signed a one-year contract with the Celtics on Friday, according to The Athletic's Shams Charania. The deal is non-guaranteed for the 2021-22 season.

Mathews spent the last two seasons playing on a two-way contract with the Wizards, occasionally providing a shooting spark off the bench and a semi-regular presence in the starting lineup.
In 64 games last season (24 starts), Mathews averaged 5.5 points and shot 38.4% from three. The Wizards couldn't bring him back on a two-way contract for a third straight year and ultimately let him walk in free agency.
Meanwhile, the Celtics had a clear need for shooting before signing Mathews, which could bode well for him as he figures to battle for a roster spot once training camp begins. The Celtics have 15 roster spots filled entering camp but only one of their two two-way slots is occupied.
If Mathews hits some shots and shows enough on defense during the preseason, he could find himself on a two-way deal with a different team in 2021-22.
