Report: FIFA Delegation Examines FedEx Field, M&T Bank Stadium as World Cup Venues

Report: FIFA looks at FedEx Field, M&T Bank Stadium for World Cup originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington

The North American FIFA World Cup that will see Canada, Mexico, and the United States serve as host nations in 2026 is not far away, which is why the delegation for the international governing body of football is visiting venues already.

According to Washington Post soccer reporter Steven Goff, the FIFA delegation is in Maryland on Sunday looking at FedEx Field in Landover and M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore as potential sites.

Victor Montagliani, head of the FIFA delegation inspecting 2026 World Cup bid venues, already met with Washington D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser at the International Spy Museum to examine the two stadiums.

The group will be in Baltimore later in the day for the Ravens-Kansas City Chiefs game on Sunday night. The FIFA delegation will get a first-hand look at the atmosphere around the stadium ahead of a big game.

There are no further details on exactly when FIFA will announce the United States' venues for the 2026 World Cup. Both stadiums have hosted international soccer friendlies and tournaments before.

Spanish giant Real Madrid beat English club Arsenal at FedEx Field as recently as July, 2019 in a preseason match for the two clubs. M&T Bank Stadium was the site for Gold Cup quarterfinal matches in 2013 and 2015.
