Report: Celtics Release Former Wizard Moe Wagner to Sign Jabari Parker

The Celtics waived one former Wizard to sign another former Wizard Friday, reportedly releasing Moe Wagner to free up a roster spot for Jabari Parker.

Boston acquired Wagner in a three-way trade with the Wizards and Bulls before the NBA trade deadline on March 25. In the deal, Washington sent out Wagner and Troy Brown Jr. for Daniel Gafford and Chandler Hutchison. Boston traded Daniel Theis to Chicago and got Wagner and Luke Kornet in return.

Wagner played in nine games with the Celtics, averaging 1.2 points and 2.1 rebounds in limited minutes. Kornet quickly emerged as the No. 3 center behind Robert Williams and Tristan Thompson, so Wagner didn't really have a place in their rotation.

Before getting shipped to Boston, Wagner flashed some potential with the Wizards in a little under two seasons with the franchise. He averaged a little over eight points and four rebounds in his time in Washington, took a bunch of charges and acted as the team's defacto spark plug off the bench.

The Wizards declined Wagner's team option before the season began, making him a free agent at the end of the 2020-21 campaign.
