Ravens Place Restricted Free-Agent Tender on Running Back Gus Edwards

After Gus Edwards' most productive season as a Raven, Baltimore placed a tender on their restricted free agent.

The 2018 undrafted free agent rushed for 723 yards and six touchdowns during the 2020-21 season. With Mark Ingram II released at the beginning of the offseason, Edwards was always going to be re-signed and Baltimore general manager Eric DeCosta said as much during his Tuesday press conference.

"Gus is going to be on the team, one way or the other," DeCosta said. "We're going to certainly tender him if we don't get a long-term deal done, but he is a Raven. He played his butt off this year, and he had a good season for us."

Edwards, 25, joined backup center Trystan Colon-Castillo and special teams linebacker Kristian Welch as the three Ravens to get tenders on Wednesday.

The tender sets the value of compensation these three players can make in restricted free agency and gives DeCosta and the Ravens the first right of refusal to any offer made by other teams.

With the most explosive running quarterback in the league in Lamar Jackson, locking down a complementary bruising back like Edwards seems to be an important priority for Baltimore this offseason.
