After a weekend where momentum for a Redskins name change reached never-before-seen heights, President Donald Trump weighed in on the topic Monday.
Here's what the President said on Twitter about the issue, where he also commented about the Cleveland Indians, who are considering a name change of their own:
They name teams out of STRENGTH, not weakness, but now the Washington Redskins & Cleveland Indians, two fabled sports franchises, look like they are going to be changing their names in order to be politically correct. Indians, like Elizabeth Warren, must be very angry right now!

This isn't the first time Trump has tweeted about this particular debate, by the way. Back in 2013, he posted these two messages as well:
Government is shut down yet Obama is now harassing the privately owned @Redskins to change its name.He needs to focus on his job!

President should not be telling the Washington Redskins to change their name-our country has far bigger problems! FOCUS on them, not nonsense

Trump's latest comments come on a day when many national voices, both inside and outside of the sports world, have given their opinion about whether the Redskins should change their name.
D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser told reporters on Monday that she's pleased with the organization's choice to review its name. Former player Brian Mitchell, meanwhile, doesn't envision a switch impacting the city's bond with the franchise.
Not everyone believes Dan Snyder will ultimately move on from Redskins, though. FS1's Skip Bayless, for example, thinks the owner is just waiting for all of this attention to die down before making the choice to stand pat.
Right now, however, there couldn't be more attention on the Burgundy and Gold. Trump's tweet is just the latest indication of that.
