Peyton Barber's Sister Sent Him ‘Waterboy' Picture After Big Game Vs. Eagles

Barber’s sister sent him ‘Waterboy’ picture after win vs. Eagles originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington

Washington running back Peyton Barber got his 2020 campaign off to a hot start Sunday when he scored two touchdowns in the team’s Week 1 win over the Philadelphia Eagles.

The offseason signing was expected to be part of a running back committee in Washington alongside rookie Antonio Gibson and J.D. McKissic, but it was Barber who received a lion’s share of the carries. Though he finished the game with only 29 rushing yards on 17 attempts, Gibson received only nine touches and McKissic three.

After the game, Barber pulled out his phone and found a message waiting for him from his sister.

“My sister, it was pretty funny, she sent me a picture of Waterboy because growing up Waterboy was one of my favorite movies,” Barber said on Friday’s episode of the Washington Football Talk podcast. “Any time I have a good game she always sends me something funny but I just thought it was really funny that she sent me that.”

“The Waterboy,” which hit theaters in 1998, features Adam Sandler as a water boy named Bobby Bouche for a football team at Florida Southern College. Bouche eventually makes his way onto the team as a hard-hitting linebacker despite his mother forbidding him from playing.

Barber is new in Washington, but it didn’t take long to make his presence felt in a surprising season-opening win. If he continues to follow Bouche’s lead, it might not be long before Washington fans start calling him “water boy” too.
