Orioles manager Brandon Hyde admits it is very unusual to prepare for the Marlins after coronavirus outbreak

The Orioles and Marlins series hit another snag on Tuesday, but it wasn't a big enough problem to further delay the series.

The two teams were scheduled to play last week in Miami, but an outbreak of COVID-19 in the Marlins' organization put a pause on their season and sent the Orioles and Major League Baseball into scramble mode. The Orioles eventually played the Yankees at Camden Yards last Wednesday and Thursday.

This week, there were more problems. A tropical storm blew through Baltimore late Monday and early into Tuesday morning, making weather a potential hindrance to games being played at Camden Yards.

Then late in the afternoon, confusion arose about the status of Tuesday's game as it related to COVID-19 tests from the Marlins. According to Jeff Passan, tests were inconclusive, meaning both teams had to wait for negative test confirmations to pick up play at Camden Yards.

Miami got its confirmation, as the game Tuesday was delayed until 8:15 from its original 7:30 start time.

"It was definitely wet this morning when I woke up, that's for sure," Orioles manager Brandon Hyde began. "But I got word that there were some issues with the tests, and that we were just going to be on hold and waited like everybody else. Let the players know we were on hold, let them know when they could get to the clubhouse and prepare to play, but we're just waiting to see what happens. Finally we got word that we're good to go. So now we're here."

While the game will go on Tuesday, followed by a doubleheader Wednesday and series finale Thursday, the Orioles faced another issue: Preparing for a team without being totally sure what their roster was.

Due to the outbreak on the team, they had to turnover a significant portion of their roster to make sure they had healthy and available players to start the series against the Orioles.

"I still haven't seen their 30-man roster," Hyde said during his pregame availability at 6:10. "I do know quite a few of the players that are here, that I think are here. Familiar with a lot of their guys, but really tough to prepare because we're unfamiliar with many as well. We didn't know the starter for them tonight going in, somebody we prepared for last series in Miami. Not easy to prepare for a team you're not sure exactly who is on their roster, you're kind of guessing. It's very very unusual."
