The Nationals announced Monday that they’ve reached a multi-year agreement with BetMGM to be their first exclusive sports betting partner with plans to open a sportsbook at Nationals Park and unveil an app for fans to use from their seats during games.

“The Nationals are thrilled to expand our strong partnership with MGM Resorts into the sports betting realm,” Alan Gottlieb, Chief Operating Officer of Lerner Sports Group, said in a statement.

“As our Official Sports Betting Partner, BetMGM will further enhance the greatest in-venue fan experience in Washington, D.C. through its state-of-the-art entertainment products and services. The BetMGM mobile app will enable our fans to engage with the game in new and exciting ways, while the BetMGM Sportsbook connected to Nationals Park will provide Nationals fans and the D.C. community with a first-class gathering place to celebrate their passion for sports together.”

BetMGM’s new sportsbook will replace Center Field Social located just outside the center field gates of Nationals Park. Fans won’t be able to access the sportsbook from inside the stadium, but the app will allow anyone in and around the stadium to place bets as well. As part of the agreement, the Nationals will feature additional advertisements for BetMGM around the stadium and on social media.

The agreement follows a series of deregulations on the sports betting industry in the DMV over the last few years. Three other venues in D.C. — Capital One Arena (home of the Wizards, Capitals), Entertainment and Sports Arena (Mystics) and Audi Field (D.C. United) — have already announced plans to open sportsbooks in conjunction with hosting professional sporting events.

“This new partnership with the Nationals is our most in-depth partnership with a team and showcases the multitude of ways we’re able to engage fans in and out of stadiums,” BetMGM Chief Revenue Officer Matt Prevost said in a statement. “We’re extremely excited to work together to create unique experiences for Nationals fans and the broader D.C. metro area during and after games.”

Nationals season-ticket holders and members of MGM’s loyalty program will be eligible for special perks and rewards related to the sportsbook. Washington is one of the first MLB teams to announce plans to open a sportsbook at its ballpark, following the Chicago Cubs’ partnership with DraftKings that includes a sportsbook at Wrigley Field.
