Monday Early Evening Football in Pittsburgh Might Be Just What Washington Needs

Monday Early Evening Football might be just what Washington needs originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington

When Washington's game against Pittsburgh was moved from this coming Sunday to this coming Monday, many fans of the franchise probably thought the same thing.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As anyone who's watched the team in the 2000s is well aware of by now, they typically play miserably on Mondays. Since 2008, the Burgundy and Gold is a staggering 2-16 on the national stage of Monday Night Football.

That comes out to a win percentage of .11. Dear lord.

Here's the thing about their showdown with the Steelers, though: Kickoff is at 5 p.m. That essentially means the two clubs will face off on Monday Early Evening Football, which is a whole different deal entirely!

You can't call that primetime; that's either rush hour or happy hour. It's basically an afternoon game with a bit of a later start, making it a completely new time slot for Washington to try out, as well as a place where no Swinging Gates have been attempted.

Combine that with the fact that Bruce Allen and Jay Gruden — two men who oversaw many, many losses on what's essentially become an infamous weeknight — are gone and it's Ron Rivera's turn now, and Washington supporters should feel a little more hope that this Monday's tilt won't go the same way that so many recent ones have.

And, hey, if it does, at least it'll be over by 8 o'clock or so instead of 11, and everyone can get a better night sleep afterward.
