Mets' ace Jacob deGrom exited his Wednesday start with the Chicago Cubs after just three innings with right shoulder soreness, according to the team.

deGrom seemed to be uncomfortable during the third inning when facing Eric Sogard, though he finished the frame -- one in which he struck out the side. He then went into the tunnel and did not return.
This marks the second straight game in which deGrom's start was followed by some injury concern. In his last outing against the Padres in which he threw six innings of one-hit ball with 10 strikeouts, he departed the contest with right flexor tendinitis. However, the star pitcher passed all tests leading up to the start against Chicago.
Though he was bothered by some discomfort on Wednesday, the results didn't show it in his three innings of work. deGrom gave up no hits, faced the minimum nine batters and struck out eight. He also added an RBI single.
The performance was a continuation of an incredible season for deGrom, he now posses a 0.54 ERA and has batted in more runs (6) than he has given up (4).
Now, the Mets and fans of baseball in general will hold their breath as they await word on the extent of the injury. New York heads to Washington for a four-game series with the Nationals over the weekend, though deGrom was not scheduled to start any of those contests.
