Max Scherzer a late scratch against the Orioles originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington
The Washington Nationals continue their weekend edition of the Beltway Series Saturday night against the Baltimore Orioles. However, the team won't count on their starting pitcher Max Scherzer, who was initially scheduled to start Saturday's game.
Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post reported that Scherzer has been scratched from his start due to mild tricep soreness resulting from swinging and not throwing.

Scherzer hopes to avoid heading to the injured list and wants to be ready to make his next scheduled start in a few days. Nationals manager Dave Martinez spoke to the media to provide further details concerning the decision to scratch Scherzer.
“As you know Max, he wanted to try the best he can to make his start today, and yesterday we talked a little bit more, and I decided that hey, maybe it’s best that we don’t push this thing,” Martinez said. “We sent him to get an MRI. His MRI came back extremely clean, so as of right now, he’s just got mild discomfort in his tricep and he’s assuming and expecting to make his next start, and so am I," Martinez said.
This season, the Nationals pitcher has a 7-4 record in 18 games started with a 2.83 ERA, 142 strikeouts, and 0.886 WHIP.
