Maryland WR Rakim Jarrett Named Big Ten Freshman of the Week

Maryland WR Rakim Jarrett named Big Ten Freshman of the Week originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington

When five-star recruit Rakim Jarrett flipped from LSU to Maryland on National Signing Day, the hope was that the nationally ranked wide receiver would become the future of the Terps offense and re-establish a somewhat desolate passing game.

So far, he's helping do just that.

After hauling in five passes for 144 yards and two touchdowns in Maryland's 35-19 win over Penn State, Jarrett was named the Big Ten's Freshman of the Week for his impactful performance.

The 2019 DC Gatorade Player of the Year out of St. John's College High School has looked as good as advertised early on in his collegiate career. With an exceptional combination of speed and athleticism, he's shown the ability to take a short crossing route and turn it into a huge play as he shifts into another gear.

Jarrett chose to stay home and play for Maryland with the goal of helping the program reach a new level of success both nationally and in the Big Ten. If he continues to show out like he did in Week 3, the Terps will be on the right track to do just that while Jarrett begins to follow in the footsteps of Maryland's recent NFL receivers Torrey Smith, Stefon Diggs, and D.J. Moore.
