The Big Ten matchup between the Maryland and Iowa women's basketball teams set for Wednesday has been postponed due to the Presidential Inauguration activities scheduled for the day in Washington D.C.

Maryland announced the decision on Tuesday, stating that Iowa expressed concerns about traveling to the area. The conference supported the notion of suspending the game.

Joe Biden is set to be sworn in as the 46th President of the United States on Wednesday and the immediate area in D.C., as well as surrounding cities, are under high alert stemming from riots at the U.S. Capitol on January 6.

The matchup isn't the first to be impacted by the event, as George Washington men's basketball's game vs. Dayton this past Sunday was moved out of D.C. to George Mason's arena in Fairfax, Va., due to safety concerns. American University also shifted men's and women's game over the past weekend.

Maryland currently holds an 11-1 record and sits at 7-0 in the Big Ten, ranking No. 7 in the AP Top 25 poll. The Terps next contest will come next Monday against Ohio State.
