Maryland basketball lands Georgetown transfer Donald Carey originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington
Maryland men's basketball coach Kevin Willard has added another talented guard to his roster.
Donald Carey, who spent the past two seasons at Georgetown, announced his commitment to Maryland on Friday via his Twitter page.

"My family and I believe in the vision Coach Willard and his staff have for UMD," Carey wrote.
Carey is the second major transfer guard the Terrapins have landed via the portal this offseason, as he joins former Charlotte standout and DeMatha Catholic High School alum Jahmir Young. Both players have also declared for the NBA Draft while maintaining their college eligibility -- the deadline to withdraw from the draft and maintain eligibility is June 1.
In his final season with the Hoyas, Carey averaged 13.5 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game, an improvement in each category from the season prior.
Maryland will mark Carey's fourth college program in six seasons. The 6-foot-5 guard -- who starred at Frederick Douglass High School in Prince George's County, Md. -- began his college career at Mount St. Mary's before transferring to Siena after one season. Carey left Siena for Georgetown following the 2019-20 season.
At Maryland, Carey figures to slide into the starting lineup alongside Young. The Terrapins have two starting backcourt spots to fill following the departures of Eric Ayala and Fatts Russell, Maryland's top two scorers from a year ago.
The backcourt duo of Carey and Young, along with returning starters Donta Scott and Hakim Hart, should give Willard a solid core as the head coach begins his first season in College Park.
