Magic Johnson Has Bradley Beal as an Early MVP Candidate

Magic Johnson has Bradley Beal as an early MVP candidate originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington

Every once in a while, five-time champion and NBA icon Magic Johnson will fire off a few tweets about the league.

On Wednesday night, he shared his thoughts on early-season MVP candidates, and Wizards star Bradley Beal was one of them.

Coming off a career-year in 2019-20, Beal has upped his game for the Wizards this season. He's leading the league in scoring at 34.9 points per game to go along with five assists and 5.3 rebounds. With the way Washington has struggled early on, it's fair to wonder where they'd be without Beal.

A COVID-19 outbreak has resulted in five-straight postponements for the Wizards, keeping Beal from building on his strong start to the season. The team did return to practice Wednesday and is scheduled to play Friday against the Bucks, though shorthanded and potentially risking injury.

Once the Wizards eventually return, they'll need every bit of the Beal they saw through the first 10 games to make a push toward a playoff spot. Every other player Johnson mentioned is a member of a bonafide contender in their respective conferences.
