LeBron agrees to two-year contract extension with Lakers originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington
Fresh off his fourth NBA championship and first with the Lakers, LeBron James agreed to extend his contract in Los Angeles.
James netted himself a two-year, $85 million max extension, according to The Athletic's Shams Charania. The deal will keep James in LA through the 2022-23 season.
James had two years remaining on the four-year maximum contract he signed with the Lakers in 2018 with a player option for the fourth year. The first year of the extension will take place of the 2021-22 player option.
This contract means James will be a Laker until he's roughly 38 years old and the deal also happens to expire the same year his son Bronny graduates from high school. James has previously stated his desire to play with his son in the NBA before calling it a career.
With James re-signed for another two years, the Lakers can refocus on free-agent star Anthony Davis, who is expected to return to LA after opting out of the final year of his contract.
By the end of James' new deal, he'd have earned $435 million in on-court money over the course of his career.
