Laviolette has no update on Schultz, Chara after loss originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington
Justin Schultz left Sunday's game against the Boston Bruins in the first period with a lower-body injury and did not return. Following the game, head coach Peter Laviolette had no update on his status.
Losing Schultz was a tough blow for a Washington team that was already without Zdeno Chara who was scratched from Sunday's game. There were no specifics given as to why Chara was scratched, but it was not merely about resting the 44-year-old in a back-to-back situation as Laviolette called him day-to-day following the game. Sunday's game against Chara's former team was the first game he has not played this season.

Chara took multiple pucks to the foot on a second-period penalty kill Saturday, but returned to play in the third period.
Laviolette has stuck with the same six players on defense for most of the season so replacing anyone in the lineup means shaking up the defense. The team's depth on the left side took a hit after Jonas Siegenthaler was traded. Should Chara be out for an extended period, a recall for Martin Fehervary may be needed.
On the right, Trevor van Riemsdyk is ready if Schultz misses any time. With Chara out, van Riemsdayk dressed Sunday for the first time since March 16. He logged 14:50 of ice time making it the first time he has played more than seven minutes since Feb. 7.
"I thought TVR came in and played a really good game for us for being out the amount of time that he was out," Laviolette said.
