Latest NBA 2K21 Ratings May Have Slighted Bradley Beal and John Wall

NBA 2K21 ratings may have slighted Beal... again originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington

If you were putting together a list of the best current players in the NBA, where would you have Bradley Beal? Top-15, maybe top-20?

NBA 2K has him tied between 18th and 23rd in their newest rankings. The latest version of the game, NBA 2K21, came out on Friday and has Beal at 88 overall. According to 2Kratings.com, that is down from his final rating on NBA 2K20, of 89.

As for why Beal got worse from the last time he played, in March, is unclear. Perhaps that is accounting for his right shoulder injury, which ended his 2019-20 season before the Wizards went to Orlando for the restart.

At 88 overall, Beal is tied with Trae Young (Hawks), Donovan Mitchell (Jazz), Chris Paul (Thunder), Russell Westbrook (Rockets) and Pascal Siakam (Raptors). He leads the Wizards roster by a good margin, as John Wall comes in at 83 as he looks forward to a return from his Achilles injury. Wall is tied with guys like Hassan Whiteside and Malcolm Brogdon as the 53rd-best player in the league.

Here is the Wizards' full roster:

  • Bradley Beal - 88
  • John Wall - 83
  • Rui Hachimura - 79
  • Davis Bertans - 79
  • Thomas Bryant - 79
  • Troy Brown Jr. - 78
  • Shabazz Napier - 76
  • Moe Wagner - 76
  • Ish Smith - 76
  • Ian Mahinmi - 74
  • Jerome Robinson - 73
  • Isaac Bonga - 72
  • Anzejs Pasecniks - 72
  • Jerian Grant - 72
  • Gary Payton II - 72
  • Admiral Schofield - 71
  • Garrison Mathews - 71
  • Johnathan Williams - 71
  • Jarrod Uthoff - 67

As you see, NBA 2K21 is using the 2019-20 roster for the 2020-21 season, at least as of now. The league's hiatus due to coronavirus has clearly thrown off the video game schedule as well. Once the draft and free agency take place, many of those names will change.

The NBA 2K21 ratings also have some surprises with the Wizards involving three-point shooting, according to 2Kratings.com. Beal's three-point rating is an 80, one point below Wagner's (81). And Bertans, who shot a ridiculous 42.4 percent from long range on 8.7 attempts last season, is an 86. He should probably be at least a 90, if not much higher than that.

You may wonder if any of this matters, but it does to many of the players themselves, including Wall who has been vocal in the past saying he should be rated higher.
