Lamar Jackson Hears Plenty of Trash Talk, But He Won't Give Any Back

Lamar Jackson won't talk trash, even if he hears plenty of it originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington

Lamar Jackson is the best player on practically every football field he steps on, even in the NFL. He regularly embarrasses opposing defenses, making them look like a high school JV team as they whiff on tackling the reigning unanimous MVP.

But despite this, Jackson has a reputation as a remarkably humble young man. And while he is happy to confirm that he doesn't engage with talking smack, he admits that wasn't always the case - especially before he was a full-time quarterback.

"I wouldn’t say that’s always been me, because when I was little I used to talk trash," Jackson admits during an interview with NBC Sports ahead of Saturday night's Bills-Ravens matchup. "I used to talk trash to my opponents when I was little, because I used to play defense. And you know defense, they always talk smack, and I know that so that’s why I really don’t talk back when they’re talking to me. But as I got older I pretty much let my play do the talking. I don’t really want to talk about it, because you get out there and get embarrassed, now everybody going to be on you. So I just chill, I just let people do them."

Jackson has clearly matured as he's gotten older (now is the time where we remind you he only just turned 24-years old) and with that has gotten away from trash talk that could come back to bite him. And the Ravens' quarterback clearly cares about respecting his opponents, evident by his comments after the Ravens' win over the Titans during Wild Card Weekend.

But Jackson's hesitance to talk trash hasn't made him immune to hearing it from others. In fact, he says he gets called out all the time.

"Number 8, I’m gonna smack you, I’m coming after you this play," Jackson says he hears regularly. "I’m gonna get you [expletive], like they cussin’ me out, I just laugh."
