The month of June has belonged to Kyle Schwarber.

Now, the Nationals/Expos franchise record for most home runs in a five-game span is also his.

Schwarber swung for the fences in the first at-bat of the game between the Nationals and the Marlins on Thursday. With his 7th home run in five games, he made Nationals history.

He didn't stop there, though. In the second inning he took another Cody Poteet pitch beyond the centerfield wall to give the Nats a 4-0 advantage before the third inning.

The majority of his damage has been done from the leadoff spot. Since Nationals manager Dave Martinez swapped Trea Turner to the No. 2 spot to make way for Schwarber on June 12, Schwarber has hit 12 home runs with 15 RBIs.

He's just one home run away from the Nats/Expos record for home runs in a calendar month and one home run away from tying the MLB record for home runs in 5-game span–Shawn Green hit 9 home runs in 5 games with the Dodgers in 2002.

In his short stint in the No. 1 spot, his 5 leadoff home runs have him tied for third most in franchise history.

Regardless of whether or not Schwarber catches or surpasses Green on Thursday, his play has helped turn a lackluster start to the season into a midseason rally similar to the one they pulled off in the 2019 regular season before bringing home the franchise's first World Series.

Since Schwarber's move to the leadoff spot, the Nationals are 9-1 and four games off of the Mets for first place in the division.

They are on track to move closer on Thursday with Schwarber leading the way.
