Jordan Reed, 49ers Suffer Another Injury Scare at MetLife Stadium

Jordan Reed, 49ers suffer another injury scare at MetLife Stadium originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington

Former Washington Football Team and current San Francisco 49ers tight end Jordan Reed suffered what looked to be a serious ankle injury during the team's Week 3 matchup with the New York Giants, but later returned to the contest.

Reed remained on the ground grabbing his ankle after nearly hauling in a touchdown pass.

The injury scare is nothing new for the 49ers or Reed. Just last week while playing the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium, San Francisco saw stars such as Nick Bosa, Solomon Thomas, Raheem Mostert and Jimmy Garoppolo leave the game with injuries. Thomas and Bosa are both out for the season with torn ACLs.

Ahead of the Week 3 matchup back at MetLife, head coach Kyle Shannahan and the team expressed concern about the turf at the stadium and how it may have contributed to a large number of injuries.

As for Reed, the talented tight end has been ailed by injuries throughout his career. Though he showed his ability to be a dominant pass-catcher during his time in Washington, Reed was never able to reach his full potential due to the time he spent of the sideline.

Most notably, concussion problems limited Reed in Washington, as he is coming off a 2019 season in which he did not play a single regular-season game after suffering a concussion in the preseason.

Reed, however, showed signs of a resurgence in Week 2 of the 2020 season, catching two touchdown passes for the 49ers. With George Kittle hampered by an injury of his own, Reed has an opportunity to once again show the league just how good he is.

Though there was a scare on Sunday, it appears he'll continue to be a main target for whoever is under center for San Francisco.
