John Wall Out for Rest of Rockets' Season With Hamstring Injury

Houston, we have another problem.

Rockets guard John Wall will be sidelined for the remainder of this season due to a hamstring injury, as originally reported by The Athletic’s Shams Charania.

Wall, who was traded along with a first-round pick from Washington to Houston in exchange for Russell Westbrook this past December, was putting up good numbers this season under tough circumstances: 20.6 ppg, 6.9 apg and 3.2 rpg.

However, his contributions were not enough to pull the Rockets out of the NBA’s basement — at 15-46, Houston has the worst record in the league and has already been mathematically eliminated from playoff contention.

With 11 games remaining in the regular season, the Rockets have no real reason to overwork Wall and can use the open point guard spot to give some younger role players an eye test on the court. This season has been especially bad for Houston. The Rockets went on a disastrous 20-game losing streak, which finally ended in late March in large part due to a Wall triple-double.

Wall, 30, spent nine seasons as the face of the Wizards’ organization, garnering five NBA All-Star nods during his time in D.C., not to mention his outstanding philanthropic work.

While Russell Westbrook has proven to be a spectacular pickup for the Wizards this season, Wall’s No. 2 jersey will undoubtedly be hung in the rafters in the nation’s capital some years. For now, he gets ready for next season with the Rockets.
