Jason Wright shares what Ron Rivera is looking for in a GM originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington

As interviews are currently taking place for Washington Football Team general manager opening, team president Jason Wright gave some clarity on 106.7 The Fan’s Grant & Danny Show on what Ron Rivera is looking for in the next GM.

"He doesn’t look for yes men," Wright said. "He’s not the type of person who’s looking for someone who’s going to co-sign on his idea, make him feel good about it, pat him on the back and keep it moving. He wants someone to challenge his thinking."

Wright pointed to Rivera's hiring of Jack Del Rio as an example of what the head coach looks for in co-workers.

"You don’t hire a defensive coordinator like Jack Del Rio who is an accomplished and successful head coach, not a wallflower personality to lead your defense when you're entering this if you want yes men," Wright said. "He's looking for people who are capable leaders who will express and voice their opinion. He’s looking for people who have a strong perspective in strategy”. No doubt people like Del Rio possess those qualities and have set the bar high with the amount of success he has had in just year one with the team.

Rivera himself has also set the bar high and expects those around him to do the same in order to change the culture within this franchise, and it’s one of the reasons why Wright believes Washington will get a “slam dunk hire."
