It Didn't Take Anthony Mantha Long to Score His First Goal With the Capitals

It didn't take Mantha long to score his first goal with the Caps originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington

Just 24 hours ago, winger Anthony Mantha was on a flight to join his new team after being acquired at the trade deadline for Jakub Vrana, Richard Panik, a 2021 first-round pick and a 2022 second-round pick.

Now, he's scoring goals for the Washington Capitals.

Nearly halfway through the second period against the Flyers, Mantha found the back of the net for his first goal with his new team and extended Washington's lead to 5-1.

The smile on his face as his new teammates embraced him says it all.

This came shortly after Mantha recorded his first point as a member of the Capitals when he assisted on a goal from Tom Wilson. It was also the 100th assist of his career.

Don't worry, Alexander Ovechkin made sure that the puck is safe and sound.

Mantha, 26, is someone that the Capitals are hoping makes an instant impact as the team gears up for a postseason run at the Stanley Cup. With physicality that makes him dangerous with the puck and a shot reminiscent of Ovechkin's, there's a lot to like about his game.

Tuesday provided the first glimpse of where Mantha fits in with his new team and what he can provide to the unit, and though it's a small sample size, there's a lot to like about that very early return.
