Rockets hire Dallas assistant Stephen Silas as new head coach originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington
The Houston Rockets have found their replacement for Mike D'Antoni, hiring Dallas Mavericks assistant Stephen Silas to become their new head coach. ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski was first with the report.
Silas, 46, reportedly sold the Rockets on his offensive ingenuity, something the Rockets have become a revolutionary force within the league. Silas started as an assistant in Charlotte, where his father, Paul, was an assistant and head coach in the late 1990s-early 2000s. With this hire, Silas completes the fifth father-son head coaching pair in NBA history.

Not only did his old boss and Mavericks owner Mark Cuban congratulate Silas on the move, but he also is the first hire under new Houston general manager Rafael Stone. Stone replaced Daryl Morrey, who became the new president of basketball operations for Philadelphia after 13 years in Houston.
