Hampton University has suspended its spring 2021 seasons for football, cross country, indoor and outdoor track and field, sailing, softball, volleyball, tennis, women's soccer and triathlon and men's lacrosse, athletic director Eugene Marshall Jr. announced Friday.

Not included in the list of sports is men's and women's basketball, which will be allowed to compete in a modified schedule due to being "self-contained" programs that "compete outside of the campus foot print," according to a statement released by the university.

Fans won't be permitted for home basketball contests.

"This decision was not taken lightly, but it was in concert with the announcement from the University to continue with virtual instruction for the spring 2021 semester," Marshall said.
