George Washington pauses MBB activities again after positive test originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington
For the second time in as many weeks, the George Washington Colonials men's basketball program will pause activities following a positive coronavirus test. The stoppage will postpone the next two scheduled games against Dayton (Jan. 20) and Rhode Island (Jan. 24).
The positive test is from a "Tier 1" staff member (a player, coach or member of the program that has direct contact with a player or coach).
Earlier this month, the Colonials were on a brief pause after a positive test as well. That pause only canceled one game against St. Bonaventure and GW has since returned to action.
Already, the Colonials have had a tough period getting in games at this point in the season. Due to a lockdown in the area surrounding the National Mall following the Capitol riots, the program had to travel to George Mason University in Fairfax, Va., to play a 'home' game against the Dayton Flyers. Their next game against the Flyers was set to be played in Dayton. The Capitol riots also forced a postponement due to a curfew placed on the city the night of the riots.
The next game on the schedule is against the George Mason Patriots on Jan. 27. At 3-9, George Washington only needs one more contest to meet the minimum amount of games required to play in the NCAA's postseason. However, both the NCAA and NIT mandate that all at-large teams must have a record above .500. Two of GW's victories have come against Atlantic 10 opponents.
