Kirk Herbstreit gets emotional while discussing social injustice: 'This is not okay' originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington
College football has officially returned and that means the hit pregame show "College GameDay," has returned as well.
While many were excited about live sports returning at the collegiate level, longtime analyst Kirk Herbstreit was brought to tears when he decided to address the current state of social injustice across the nation. Herbstreit's display of emotions, as well as his words, should act as a clear sign to all that the issue of police brutality and systemic racism is more important than a game -- don't forget that.

"If you're a white player in these locker rooms I think its incumbent of you to really help with the change. It's one thing to have rallies, it's one thing to skip a practice because of social injustice, it's one thing for the NBA and NFL to miss games in order to make a statement, those things are great. But my question is 'what's next? what does that lead to? What will lead to change?'" Herbstreit said.
"The black community is hurting. How do you listen to these stories and not feel pain and not want to help?" Herbstreit said. "Wearing a hoodie, having to put your hands at 10-and-2, what are we talking about? You can't relate to that if you're white but you can listen, you can help, because this is not okay. It's just not."
While it's amazing to see the NCAA roll out measures that allow athletes across the nation to continue to compete at a high level, playing the game they love, never forget what's still happening to the Black community. While you're watching games today, think to yourself 'What can I do to help change?'
“Justice will not be served until those who are unaffected are as outraged as those who are," Herbstreit said quoting Benjamin Franklin.
