Stevenson gets inside-the-park HR after Smith crashes wall originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington
The Nationals’ hottest hitter? Andrew Stevenson.
Not Juan Soto or Trea Turner. It’s Stevenson, who has a 10-game hitting streak and a seven-game streak with an extra-base hit. Both streaks were extended when he homered Saturday against Jacob deGrom in the third inning of Game 1 at Nationals Park. Stevenson hit a slider to center field for his first home run of the season.
Two innings later, he made it around the bases again. This time, Stevenson hit a fly ball to left field which sent Dominic Smith running toward the wall. Smith crashed face-first into the wall before crumpling to the ground. Stevenson continued running.
Smith laid face down in deep left field after his emphatic collision with the padded fence. Stevenson made it all the way around the bases to tie the game, 3-3, via his second home run of the day off deGrom.

Eventually, Smith rose and remained in the game. The run is the last one deGrom will allow in 2020. He was replaced the next inning. Stevenson remained in the leadoff spot to try to continue his big day.
