DMV Natives Kevin Durant, Katie Ledecky Pose for Photo at Tokyo Opening Ceremonies

DMV natives Durant, Ledecky pose for photo at Opening Ceremonies originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington

Two of Team USA's most prominent athletes competing in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic games are from the Washington, D.C area Maryland suburbs.

So, during Opening Ceremonies on Friday, you know they had to snap a photo together.

That would be swimmer Katie Ledecky and NBA star Kevin Durant, who are each competing in their third respective Olympic games.

Ledecky also posted a photo with two of her Stanford swim teammates, Simone Manuel and Brooke Forde. In those three snapshots that Ledecky posted with Durant, Manuel and Forde, there are a total of nine gold medals already won -- with more likely to come over the next few weeks. That's some serious flexing.

During the event, Durant went live on Instagram and shouted out Prince George's County, Md., specifically the town of Seat Pleasant, where he was born and raised.

It shouldn't be a surprise that the DMV area is well represented once again in the Olympic games. In 2016, Maryland-based athletes brought home a whopping 14 gold medals for Team USA, which would have been more than all but five other countries.
