Ahead of the Wizards' tilt with the Magic Wednesday night, Deni Avdija paid homage to Israel's Holocaust Remembrance Day with a special message on his shoes.

Washington's rookie wing wore black upon arrival and wrote "Remember" in Hebrew on his shoes. The Israeli pronunciation for the word is "Yeezkor."

Avdija was born in Beit Zara, Israel and spent seven years playing professionally with one of the top basketball teams in the country in Maccabi Tel Aviv. He joined the organization in 2013 as a youth player and made his senior team debut as a 16-year-old in 2017.

Over his three-year playing career with Tel Aviv, Avdija won three Israeli League championships and took home the league MVP award in 2020.

After a successful tenure playing overseas, Avdija was taken with the ninth overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft by the Wizards.
