If they weren't already, things are getting ugly as Washington Football Team owner Dan Snyder seeks to find out the sources of disinformation that spread about his tenure this summer.

In a recent set of court filings Snyder accused the wife of Scot McCloughan, the team's former general manager, of spreading lies about him that aided the publication of articles this summer that without evidence connected the owner to sex trafficking and the late convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein according to a report by The Athletic.

Earlier this week, attorneys for Snyder asked a federal court in Colorado to approve subpoenas for Jessica McCloughan and the Friday Night Lights LLC, for which she is a legal agent.

The legal filings might infer that McCloughan provided information on a series of articles that showed verbal abuse and sexual harassment against female employees on the Washington Football Team. Via the Athletic:

Petitioner has obtained documents confirming that Mrs. McCloughan communicated with at least one former Team employee on at least forty-four (44) occasions both in the days leading up to and immediately following the publication of the Defamatory Articles,” Snyder’s lawyer wrote in the motion. “Each of Mrs. McCloughan’s calls were made via a phone number registered to her company, Friday Night Lights. The volume and timing of these calls suggest that Respondents had advance knowledge of the publication and contents of the Defamatory Articles, and/or the publication and contents of a forthcoming July 16, 2020 article in the Washington Post about the Team. Further, the 44 calls between Respondents and a former Team employee were frequently preceded or followed by calls that same day – sometimes within minutes – between the former Team employee and representatives of the Washington Post and/or one of the minority owners of the Team.”

The report from The Athletic makes clear that Snyder is not suing McCloughan, just seeking information.

Scot McCloughan served as the Washington general manager in 2015 and 2016, with the team winning the NFC East in 2015. He was fired by the team in March 2017 amid allegations of alcohol abuse.

The news comes as Snyder is reportedly on the other end of a different court filing - the team's minority owners are reportedly asking a federal judge to step in to help facilitate a sale of their shares.
