We are smack dab in the middle of college football season, meaning programs from all over the country are gearing up for the home stretch before bowl games begin in December. In the Colonial Athletic Conference, two juggernauts will battle for the chance to stay in the top three of the standings.
James Madison will play host to the red hot Elon Phoenix, winners of their last three straight. While JMU sits just below Villanova in the CAA standings with a stellar 6-1 overall record, Elon's recent tear has catapulted them to No. 4 in the conference, with only William & Mary separating the two squads.

James Madison is in prime position to finish their season off strong, with three of their four remaining games coming on home turf. However, they actually have a better record away from home (4-0) than they do at Bridgeforth (2-1), so keep a close eye on how Elon navigates the away stadium. JMU has an 8-1 all-time record against Elon, winning each of the last two matchups.
The biggest discrepancy between the two CAA rivals in their history vs. each other comes on offense. When JMU plays Elon, they outscore the Phoenix by an average of 39.3 to 14.6 points per game. Elon has only conceded an average of 23.5 ppg this season, so their secondary will look to tether the Dukes' high-powered offense.
JAMES MADISON vs. ELON PLAYERS TO WATCH
James Madison: DL Bryce Carter. JMU has been spectacular in its last two games vs. Delaware and Richmond, conceding an average of just 6.5 points in those contests. The defensive unit has been propelled by Carter, who leads the Dukes with 10.5 tackles for a loss.
Elon: RB Jaylan Thomas. Speaking of how good JMU's defense has been, they held Reigning CAA Player of the Year, Delaware's Dejon Lee, to just 31 rushing yards on Saturday. Thomas is Elon's leading rusher on the season, so he simply must put up better numbers than Lee if Elon is to stand a chance when their offense takes the field.
