Clemson blasts GT to set ACC record for margin of victory originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington
The ACC was formed in 1953, and never before in its 67-year history had a game between two conference teams ended with as lopsided of a result as what took place Saturday between founding member Clemson (5-0) and Georgia Tech (2-3).
The No. 1-ranked Tigers won 73-7, with the 66-point margin of victory being the largest in an ACC game in conference history.
The game started promising for the home Yellow Jackets, as they rebounded from a Clemson touchdown in the first quarter with a score of their own on the very next possession, a 59-yard pass from Jeff Sims to Jalen Camp. Unfortunately for Georgia Tech, that would be its last score -- and thanks to a phenomenal performance by quarterback Trevor Lawrence, Clemson kept going.

Lawrence, who was pulled shortly after halftime with the score 52-7, finished the game 24-of-32 for 404 yards, five touchdowns and one interception. Wide receiver Amari Rodgers caught six passes for 161 yards and two scores.
The win also marks Clemson's second all-time win against a major-college program by 65 points or more, according to The Athletic's Jason Starrett. Coincidentally, the previous such win was also against Georgia Tech, on the road, on the exact same day in 1903. And the Tigers scored the same amount of points.
That game, of course, took place before the ACC existed, which is why Saturday's victory holds the record for the league's largest margin of victory.
