Chase Young ‘Wanted to Be Remembered' for His Performance on Thanksgiving

Young 'wanted to be remembered' for Thanksgiving performance originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington

Even at a young age, before Chase Young was destined for the NFL, the goal for him was always to be a player that shined on Thanksgiving Day.

Long before he knew LeBron James would be tuned in to see him, he watched the games as a kid with his eyes were always glued to the television as he aspired to be the next star to dominate in front of a national audience. So as he prepared for his introduction to the special day, the goal was to dominate.

“I wanted to be remembered on this game. I watched this game for so many years," Young said. "At my grandparent's house, just in the basement, every Thanksgiving I used to watch Dallas and Washington.”

“I knew this game, it was a game that I wanted to make an impact in this game," Young said.

The star rookie delivered on his goal against the Cowboys. Recording a sack and two tackles for loss, the defensive end was a major factor in a pass rush that kept Andy Dalton uncomfortable and off-balance for a majority of the contest. As far as first impressions in a Thanksgiving game go, Young did about as well as he could have.

In addition to his long-time goal of performing well on the holiday before a national audience, the game was also special for another reason: he got to do it against Dallas.

Every so often, Young's past tweets about his feelings toward the Cowboys will resurface. In summation, he's not a big fan.

That disdain comes from his childhood as well, as he shared the house with plenty of Dallas fans. So, making his mark on Thanksgiving was already great. But having the Cowboys be on the other end of the result was the cherry on top - even if it left others conflicted.

“Great, great. Because my mom, when I grew up she was Cowboys fan, my grandfather, he was a Cowboys fan," Young said. "So I know he in heaven mad, but happy at the same time."

"So, I played with a few chips on my shoulder today and it felt good," Young said.

As Young stated back in 2016, for him, it's "always a good day when the Cowboys lose." Now that he is a part of making that happen, it only rings truer.
