Chase Young Couldn't Care Less About the ‘I Want Tom!' Video Backlash

Young couldn't care less about 'I want Tom!' video backlash originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington

On Sunday night, Chase Young wanted Tom Brady, and on Wednesday afternoon, Chase Young still wanted Tom Brady.

Ever since the video you've seen by now surfaced after Washington's playoff-clinching win in Philadelphia, there's been a heavy amount of attention on it, and some of it has been negative.

Brady's coach, Bruce Arians, cautioned that the defender needs to be "careful" with what he wishes for. Pundits are stating that No. 99 better be ready to put up an all-time performance in order to back up his message for the quarterback.

Even Ron Rivera admitted that he cringed a bit at first when seeing the clip, though ultimately, he explained that's how he wants his emerging superstar to approach things.

So, Young was asked after Washington's midweek practice if he has noticed the backlash or cares if his video becomes bulletin board material for the Bucs. "Yes" and "no" would sum up his response, but the response itself is far better.

"I play ball," he said. "I'm excited to go against the best. The media, their job is to stir it up. If you know me, I'm excited for every game. Tom Brady, you think I'm not excited to play against the GOAT? You trippin'. I'm not going to apologize for saying I want Tom. No, I want every quarterback I play against."

This guy just doesn't miss.

While Tampa's social media account likely has a meme cued up for the contest if Brady bests Young and every national football show is probably prepared to play it on loop following a Washington loss, it's clear those possibilities are the furthest thing from Young's mind.

Which is just how it should be.

Young is already elite and trending toward categories above that, and he craves chances to square off against other players on that level. To him, it's as simple as that. If only that was true for everyone else.
