Caps sign Anderson for taxi squad, finalize roster originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington

The Capitals have signed goalie Craig Anderson to a one-year contract for $700,000 and placed him on waivers on Wednesday. He is expected to begin the season on the taxi squad if he clears on Thursday by 12 p.m.

In addition, the Caps announced the roster for the start of the season. Washington will carry the maximum of 23 players on the roster with 13 forwards, eight defensemen and two goalies.

The team also announced its taxi squad as of Wednesday.

Martin Fehervary and Brian Pinho were not among the players cut on Monday, but both players are waiver exempt allowing the Caps to reassign them to the taxi squad on Wednesday.

If you are confused by having two goalies on the taxi squad, this is likely insurance for Anderson. With Anderson on waivers, he could technically get claimed. If that happens, Washington will remain compliant with the rules that require teams to have three goalies on the active roster and taxi squad. If Anderson clears, one or both of Pheonix Copley and Zach Fucale are likely to be reassigned to Hershey.
