Capitals' Dmitry Orlov Has Been Vaccinated Since Return to U.S. for NHL Season

Dmitry Orlov says he's been vaccinated since return to U.S. originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington

Dmitry Orlov cleared up the circumstances around his vaccination status at Capitals Media Day on Thursday, and confirmed he has been vaccinated since returning to the United States.

Recently, he gave an interview where he stated he was not yet vaccinated. He mentioned there was some miscommunication in translation with that interview, and now has gotten vaccinated.

“I think league made some rules, so they basically didn’t give us option," Orlov said Thursday. "They give option, but the second option, if you’re not vaccinated, basically you’re not playing all games, you’re not normal person. I don’t know what to say. At that time (of the interview), I wasn’t."

Orlov said he waited until he returned to the U.S. to get vaccinated, because when the vaccine became available and he could've gotten it before the playoffs began, Johnson & Johnson stopped giving out the vaccine for a brief moment in time and that made Orlov pause.

Now, he said he's vaccinated and hopes there won't be any issues moving forward this season.

"So I want to vaccinate before the playoffs start, when the news pop up about Johnson & Johnson, they kind of stop giving to people," Orlov said. "It’s kind of like, ‘OK, I’m not going to do it, see what’s going on.’ After season is over, I go to Russia, I ask our doctors, ‘Can I get vaccinated in Russia?’ They said no, because it’s not working here, so it’s no sense for me to get there. When I get here, as soon as I get here, I get vaccinated so it’s not a problem."
