At the MLB trade deadline, the Nationals sent a clear message with the moves they made; they're looking towards the future. General Manager Mike Rizzo offloaded Max Scherzer, Trea Turner and other key veterans as they begin their youth movement.

One of the players that will be counted on to help lead the Nationals in this youth movement is right-handed pitcher Cade Cavalli. The No. 77 ranked prospect by MLB showcased his talents when going 6 2/3 scoreless innings for Double-A Harrisburg on Friday night.

Cavalli struck 12 batters while only giving up two hits in an 8-2 road win over Altoona Friday night. MLB Pipeline wrote that the Nationals prospect looked more and more comfortable as the game went on.

The 22-year-old has a 4-4 record this season in the minor leagues splitting time between Harrisburg and High-A Wilmington. Cavalli has a 2.57 ERA in 77 innings pitched.

Following Cavalli's performance, he leads all minor leaguers in strikeouts with 125, nine more than San Francisco Giants prospect Ryan Murphy. He is not expected to see major-league time this September given Cavalli is in his first pro season and never pitched more than 60 innings even in college.
