McCain has 'no beef' with Miami, ready to 'ball out' for WFT originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington

WATCH HEREAfter seven years as a member of the Dolphins, Miami made the decision to release safety Bobby McCain earlier this offseason. A few weeks later he would sign a one-year deal with the Washington Football Team, filling a need in the backend of the secondary.
Speaking with the local media on Tuesday via Zoom for the first time since arriving in Washington, McCain said there is no animosity towards his former club but is looking forward to joining a great defense in D.C.

SIGN UP "Business is business. Me being in my seventh year in the league, I understand it," McCain said."I appreciate the opportunity from Miami. There's no beef there. They drafted me, they extended me. I appreciate my opportunity from them, but now it's a new chapter, a new beginning. I'm just trying to be the best player here for the Washington Football Team and just go ball out."
Over his seven seasons with the Dolphins, McCain played all over the field. In just the last three seasons, McCain has played cornerback and both safety positions. In 2020, McCain started a career single-season high 15 games for Miami at strong safety.

Since taking over as head coach in January of 2020, Ron Rivera has preached having positional versatility on his roster on both sides of the ball. McCain's ability to play all over the field played a role in Washington's decision to sign him this offseason.
"I'm a defensive back. I can play all five spots on the backend," McCain said. "There's not somewhere you can't put me in. Whether it's safety, corner, or nickel -- no matter the spot -- I'll do my best to perform and win."
With OTAs beginning this week, McCain got his first taste playing alongside his new teammates. Only four members of Washington's roster -- Chase Young, Montez Sweat, Steven Sims and Charles Leno Jr. -- were absent from the voluntary practice sessions.

Washington's secondary has multiple versatile pieces -- McCain, Kendall Fuller and Kam Curl, to name a few -- giving Jack Del Rio the opportunity to get creative on the backend of his defense.
But as for what his specific role will be, McCain is not too worried about it.
"I'm here to play and here to win," McCain said. "I don't want to step on anybody's toes or anything like that. Just know I'm here to win."
