The Atlanta Hawks announced they have decided to dismiss head coach Lloyd Pierce on Monday.

Pierce was hired ahead of the 2018-19 season and has led the team to a 63-120 record during his tenure. The decision to fire Pierce comes off the heels of a 109-99 loss to the Miami Heat on Sunday night, the team's 11th loss in 15 games and 20th of the 2021 season. At 14-20, the Hawks are in 11th place in the Eastern Conference.

In a statement, Hawks President of basketball operations/general manager Travis Schlenk thanked Pierce for his time in Atlanta and confirmed reports of his dismissal.

"We would like to thank Lloyd for his work and commitment to not only the Hawks organization but the city of Atlanta. He and his wife, Melissa, are tremendous people who have made a positive impact throughout the city. We have high expectations for our team on the court and we believe by making this change now that we can have a strong second half of the season."

Hawks assistant coach Nate McMillian is expected to assume the role of interim head coach.
