Angels' Shohei Ohtani Scratched From Start Vs. A's Following Transportation Issues

Los Angeles Angels two-way star Shohei Ohtani will not pitch against the Oakland Athletics on Thursday due to a typical Bay Area transportation issue.

Ohtani was scratched from his start after he was delayed in arriving to the Oakland Coliseum due to an accident on the Bay Bridge.

Visiting teams tend to stay in San Francisco when playing the A’s, so the organization instead had Ohtani take BART, but the timing didn’t work out for him to arrive in time for his typical pregame routine.

However, BART caught wind of it and said there weren’t any issues on their end with any trains heading toward the Coliseum.

The Angels will be sending Patrick Sandoval to the mound in Ohtani's place, but the two-way superstar will still be in the lineup batting second and serving as the designated hitter.

Ohtani is now scheduled to pitch on Friday.

Ohtani is slashing .269/.326/.632 and a .928 OPS in 187 trips to the plate as a hitter this season. He's 1-0 with a 2.37 ERA in six starts as a pitcher.
