When you complete a comeback from a leg injury so severe it almost requires amputation, the more support from those close to you the better.
With Alex Smith returning to the practice field on Sunday after getting cleared for full football activity the day prior, it's fair to say his wife Elizabeth was as proud as ever.
And who can blame her.
Anyone downplaying the significance of Smith's comeback from a leg injury that turned into the infection that almost took his life clearly does not remember the entire timeline of events. At 36, Smith still could have some productive seasons under center for Washington - whether he ever regains a starting job or not. That remains to be seen. He still needs to show he can be perform on the field and that's no guarantee.
For now, however, the Smith family has plenty of reasons to celebrate an occassion that some thought might never come.
