The NHL announced Monday that Capitals forward Alex Ovechkin was its First Star of the Week after he scored four goals with three assists to help lead Washington to three straight wins.

Ovechkin put together his 16th career three-assist game against the Montreal Canadiens on Wednesday before picking up his 28th career hat trick at the behest of the Florida Panthers on Friday. The 36-year-old then scored a goal in Sunday’s tilt with the Carolina Hurricanes to cap off the week.

It marks the third time this season that Ovechkin has won a weekly NHL award. He was also named the First Star of the Month for October after he tallied nine goals and six assists over his first nine games. Rounding out last week's stars were Pittsburgh Penguins goalie Tristan Jarry and Colorado Avalanche defenseman Cale Makar.

Ovechkin’s strong play has the Capitals (14-3-5) on top of the NHL standings with 33 points, tied only with the Toronto Maple Leafs. On the season, he ranks second in the NHL with 19 goals and tied for sixth in assists at 18. Only Edmonton Oilers center Leon Draisaitl (40) has more points.
