3 Instant Overreactions: Is It Time to Bench Dwayne Haskins?

3 instant overreaction: Is it time to bench Dwayne Haskins? originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington

Dwayne Haskins threw three interceptions on Sunday and did not give Washington much of a chance at winning the game.

It was tough to see, as Chase Young and Matt Ioannidis got hurt and left the game early on, adding insult to injury.

In the end, it's a 34-20 loss for Washington and it drops the Burgundy and Gold record to 1-2 on the year and a date with the Ravens looming.

How should fans react? Let's take a look:

  1. Bench Haskins? - No, it's not time to bench Haskins. Let me repeat - it's not time to bench Dwayne Haskins. He had a tough start to the season and the loss in Cleveland was an awful display of accuracy, but still, this is a second-year player that needs reps and games to get a full evaluation. The interceptions were very bad, and for the second straight week he fumbled too, but Haskins has also shown a live arm and composure. 2020 needs to be about figuring out if Haskins is the future at quarterback for Washington, and it's still too early to pull the plug on that evaluation.
  2. Can't stop, won't stop - For the second straight week Washington gave up more than 150 yards rushing. The defense is playing well and certainly getting to the quarterback but Cleveland's running backs Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt had their way with the Burgundy and Gold in the second half.
  3. Please be OK - First quarter injuries to Chase Young and Matt Ioannidis put a dark cloud over this game almost from the start, particularly to Young. The number two overall pick injured his groin and left the field, within minutes the team announced Young would not return and he was back on the sideline in street clothes. Keep in mind Young missed time during training camp with a hip flexor issue too.
