Nationals Activate Jayson Werth From Disabled List

The Washington Nationals activated and reinstated outfielder Jayson Werth from the 60-day disabled list Thursday, marking his return from a broken left wrist. He will play center field and bat sixth this evening.

Werth was batting. 276 with three home runs and 12 RBIs in 27 games earlier this season before breaking his wrist May 6 while attempting to make a sliding catch against the Philadelphia Phillies, who coincidentally wrap up a three-game series in Washington Thursday. In even more freaky coincidences, the Nationals will face the same pitcher Thursday that Werth did in his last game nearly three months ago: Cole Hamels.

Despite Werth's absence, the Nats currently sit at 61-42, which is MLB's second-best record behind the Cincinnati Reds.

To make room for Werth, Washington placed reliever Henry Rodriguez on the 15-day DL with a back injury.
