Nationals Promote (?) Triple A Pitching Coach

Team fires pitching coach St. Claire, hires McCatty

WASHINGTON -- The Washington Nationals have fired pitching coach Randy St. Claire and, ahem, promoted Steve McCatty from Triple A to replace him, the Associated Press reported.

That might be just what the woeful pitching staff needs: someone with fresh experience coaching minor league caliber pitchers.

Unfortunately for McCatty, his "promotion" puts him one step closer to job insecurity. This pitching staff needs more than just coaching. For starters, get McCatty some pitchers to work with, and not just Strassy.

The Nationals have the worst record and ERA in the majors. St. Claire was in his seventh season with the franchise and was the only coach to be retained after last season, the AP reported.

McCatty was moved up from Syracuse on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, manager Manny Acta kept his job.
