The Nationals lost.
Now that we've gotten that out of the way, let's look at how they lost to the Pirates Wednesday.
Down 4-2 with one out in the bottom of the ninth, Denard Span came to the plate as the potential tying run with Wilson Ramos on first. With the count at 1-1, Span chopped a grounder to Neil Walker, who collected the ball and lunged at Ramos, who obviously avoided the tag, before throwing to Gaby Sanchez to get Span at first.
So two outs with a runner on second, right? Nope.
Let's see that again in slow motion.

Yeah, that was pretty bad.
Now this may come as a shock, but Ramos was none too pleased with offending umpire Laz Diaz after the game.
"Not even close," he told reporters. "He never tagged me. Maybe he [wanted] to go home."
Nationals fans went home having witnessed their team's sixth consecutive loss at home and overall. Washington has now lost six straight for the first time since Aug. 23-28, 2011.
