Matt Hendricks, Capitals Join “You Can Play” Initiative

So far, George Washington University and D.C. United have represented local sports team in the "You Can Play" movement, an initiative geared toward promoting sexual orientation equality across all playing fields.

On Tuesday, the Washington Capitals joined the cause with a PSA featuring forward Matt Hendricks:

"Hockey takes courage. It takes courage to block a shot, pay the price in the corner or to fight for your teammates. It shouldn't take courage to go in your locker room."

“I’m honored to join many other athletes and show my support for You Can Play,” Hendricks said in a statement released by the Caps. “I believe in equality for all people, and everyone should be able to be given a fair opportunity to compete and play the game they love.”
